Not Alone

"It hurts." I stop and turn to you
You have your hand over your heart
"I don't think it will ever go away."
Your eyes were shadowed by sadness and pain

My hand takes yours as I give you an encouraging smile
"How can you try, despite knowing I'm going to fail?"
I let our fingers intertwine as I stare into your watery gaze
"There's no point, just let me be."

You sigh before you pull me into a hug
"Remember when you said, 'all we have in life is each other?'"
You nodded your head slightly
"Well that's all you need.

Confusion etched on your face as you tilt your head to the side
"You have me, our friends, and your family."
A tired sigh escapes you as you gaze at our hands
"Just rely on us." I smile at you

"I can't do that. It doesn't seem right."
I drop your hands and look at you strangely
"Don't, don't leave me." Your voice wavers
I wrap my arms around you as I hold you tightly.
